PROJECT3 closed out the 2026 season in style at the Chicago Marathon and the numbers are wild.

71 PROJECT3 runners finished the race. 26 of them set brand-new personal bests in PUMA’s Sunny Lime kits, powered by the Fast-R NITRO™ Elite 3 or Deviate NITRO™ Elite 4. Fifteen of those athletes improved by more than three minutes and will each walk away with a $3,000 performance bonus. Collectively, the group took a staggering 1 hour 32 minutes and 53 seconds off their previous marathon bests.

Top of the leaderboard

  • Fastest man: Alejandro Martinez Ambrosio (USA) – 2:17:32 (new PB)
  • Fastest woman: Amanda Mosborg (USA) – 2:29:30 (new PB, 2:27 faster)

Both take home $3,000 as PROJECT3’s first-place finishers.

The biggest jump of the day belonged to Hannah Bashan (USA). She dropped an insane 11 minutes and 53 seconds to finish in 2:51:51, earning her $6,000 total ($3,000 for the 3+ minute improvement + $3,000 for the largest overall time drop).

The bigger picture
PROJECT3’s second year wraps with $405,000 in prize money distributed in 2026 (on top of $160,000 in its debut year). Next stop: Mumbai 2027, where 100 athletes will line up ready to chase the next set of PBs.

It was a historic day in Berlin as PUMA athlete Amanal Petros once again raised the bar on home soil. Racing in the FAST-R NITRO™ Elite 3, Petros shattered his own national record and clocked a personal best of 59:22.

His third-place finish was nine seconds faster than his 2025 performance, proving that his recent training block in Kenya is paying off in a big way.

A Record-Breaking Day in Berlin

Petros wasn’t the only one celebrating a career-defining run. The PUMA women’s roster also turned heads with massive performances:

  • Esther Pfeiffer (Germany): The four-time national champion shaved three seconds off her PB, finishing 5th with a stellar time of 67:25.

  • Chloe Herbiet (Belgium): In a truly standout performance, Herbiet sliced over two and a half minutes off her previous best. Her time of 67:32 set a new Belgian national record.

“To hit such a big personal best and set a new national record feels amazing,” said Herbiet. “I came into today feeling confident after training with the PUMA Elite Running Team in North Carolina, but this even exceeded my own expectations.”

PUMA athletes Amanal Petros and Chloe Herbiet have smashed their respective national records at the Valenica Marathon, cementing a place in the PUMA history books as the brand’s fastest ever male and female road runners.

Petros, a silver medallist at the 2025 Tokyo World Championships Marathon, delivered a spectacular second place performance in Valencia as well as a new German national record. He crossed the finish line in 2:04:04, surpassing his previous personal best of 2:04:58 set at the 2023 Berlin Marathon. This performance marks the fastest marathon ever run by a PUMA athlete and the third fastest ever marathon in European history.

“I’ve run many marathons but today I felt different. Everything aligned: the training, my pacing, the course. To break the German record is beyond anything I imagined,” said Amanal Petros.

It was double delight for PUMA, as Chloe Herbiet – the reigning European Half Marathon Champion – ran to a historic third place finish in a world class field. With a previous best of 2:24:56, Herbiet put in the performance of a lifetime to shatter that mark, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:20:38. The result makes the Belgian the sixth fastest European of all-time.

Both athletes powered to new records wearing the most coveted race day running shoe of the year, FAST-R NITRO™ Elite 3.

Rounding out the Top 10 in the women’s field for PUMA was Glenrose Xaba of South Africa with a sixth-place finish (2:23:22), followed by Meritxell Soler of Spain in ninth who set a new personal best (2:23:49).
